So,
tomorrow, no post. Sorry guys! I know you, my loyal fans (all 7 of you), are anxious
for a new post this week as you are every Tuesday when I harass you with
notifications of a new post. Alas, tomorrow I will be absent, so it will be
impossible for me to provide you with great insight about a non- insightful
matter. As you can well see from this, I manage to come up with things
to post right on the day I’m posting, meaning I don’t have a subject to post at
all as of right now. But don’t fret, my darlings! I will be back with something
on Thursday, so I’ll see you all then!

A POST ABOUT A NON- POST

IT'S NOT ME, IT'S EEW (EPISODE II)
Burger Roadkill.
Yes, that's what it is. At the top left corner of the picture the meat patty has been run over by a car, I would assume.
I won't elaborate much on what is shown, just an odd observation. The bread has no mayo. If someone dropped a burger it was probably because of the lack of condiment.
Happy weekend!
Special thanks to Paulet Bobadilla for providing her picture taking skills.

I WANT TO MARRY JOHNNY CASTLE
Listed
below are the 10 reasons why my heart and dreams are set to find a character Patrick
Swayze portrayed in the movie Dirty Dancing back in the year 1987.
1) Obviously,
he can dance. That’s the whole point of the story, I know, but he’s got some
serious moves, so I had to at least mention it.
2) What
makes him attractive at first is that you can see that Johnny is a bit of a bad
boy, and who doesn’t like that?
3) Although he
is a little snarky to Baby in the beginning of the movie, he composes himself and
actually starts liking her, even when they didn’t get off to a good start. This
means he has an open mind and doesn’t hold on to bad first judgments on his
part.
4) Okay, so I’m
gonna fess up and say that when he could just be standing there with his leather jacket and
Ray Ban’s doing nothing, I find him completely sexy and irresistible, so there.
5) He won’t
let his friends down, he helped Penny out and claimed responsibility for her
even when he didn’t have to.
6) Like a pointed out on #5, he didn't let Penny down, but then he did something more, he fought for her honor when disgusting Robbie dissed her.
7) He can
live on Jujubes.
8) It was
very brave of Johnny to face Baby’s father and then tries to speak to Mr. Houseman until he kicks him out of his cabin.
9) He came
back for Baby. Of course he would go back to her! He needed that last dance and
show off his new moves.
10) And the
mother of all my problems: Even if he doesn’t have a stable job (he flinches
at the thought of it), Johnny is genuinely happy when he dances, he follows his
passion. Although, yeah, he could do something more about it instead of wasting
his talent on a summer job at some hotel, or painting houses for that matter.
Anyway, I blame
Patrick Swayze’s interpretation of Jonny Castle, for making me be attracted to
grown men with unstable jobs, because I know (in theory, at least) that I should
aspire for a guy with a successful career, or working hard to achieve that
goal. But, no. Not this little gal, no. It’s not like I am hoping to meet a talented man with a lack of vision. It’s not that at all,
it’s just that I find myself being attracted to guys with unstable jobs, and
maybe somewhat lost when it comes to their professional callings. Keep in mind,
as I am terribly unable to socialize (the implication being that I don’t know a
lot of guys on either side of this spectrum), what I mean in that last sentence
is that when a friend, or my sister, or even my mom tells me “Look at that guy
over there, the one in the suit! Isn’t he cute?” I most of the time will
respond “You know that waiter/ DQ cashier/ cell phone vendor we just passed was
cuter right?”
Maybe, it
isn’t that bad to have low expectations from a guy in the sense of if he will
or will not be able to provide. I’m not saying that I want to be supporting a
sloth or anything, he must at least have a passion and pursue it. Something artistic, or
maybe a writer also, or maybe his passion is altruism, and because he wants to
take care of others he can’t hold on to a job that will allow him to do so. Who
knows? It could be anything, as long as they are following a dream. And my
dream is to find one such guy who will tell the world “Nobody puts Clementina in
a corner… because she´s hiding there, eating my Jujubes.”

THE AGE OF FACEBOOK
I had held
back on creating a Facebook account for as long as I could, but only through coercion,
intimidating blackmail and downright bullying was I forced to go down the
rabbit hole. Maybe I exaggerate, but, that’s the way I’m telling this story, so,
suck it.
But, where
were my fears founded on, really? Did I have no desire in taking part of the
whole social networking? Was I being too much of a hipster to do what everyone
else was doing? Maybe I was being paranoid and thought Facebook would trace
everything I did on my PC and let everyone else know? I’m guessing it was a
combination of all three, plus the notion that I would develop an addictive
personality towards it.
Of course,
once I had my account up and running, I realized that my fears were terribly
silly, and accepted it as a great form of communication and broadcasting of
sorts. Also, I steered clear from the whole Farmville thing going on in there.
Just listening to people talk about their pretend tomatoes and whatnot creeps me out.
However, I find
it a bit boring at times, unless you decide to follow sites with noteworthy
articles and/ or videos to check out from time to time.
What baffles
me still is what some people find worth mentioning on their status. It’s as if
Facebook is a DIY for tabloid exposure, assuming they feel like celebrities
based on how many FBFs (Facebook Friends) they have. Take a simple example,
with things such as “LOL! @myself with @bffoftheweekend partying @ trendy club/
cool bar/ someone’s-birthday-we-crashed!!” First of all, it seems as if these
kinds of things are to show off just how incredible their social lives are… Whenever
I do go out and pictures are taken I don’t feel like I have to post it on FB. Yet it isn’t that annoying when I think
about how they announce their awesome weekend or whatever, because I can choose
to keep scrolling and never mind them. Still, it makes me want to go back to a
time when that wasn’t necessary. Maybe that’s why I like watching Sleepless in Seattle in which Meg Ryan
uses her journalist savvy to find out about Tom Hanks, instead of googling him,
or When Harry Met Sally in which if
Billy Crystal wants to know what Meg has been up to he calls her and asks her
directly, instead of going through her facebook wall. Or maybe, I really like
Meg Ryan movies.
Certainly,
everyone has seen posts from their FBFs about:
- Pictures
of meals. This one is weird, but doesn’t bother me much. I just wonder if you’re
truly hungry you might want to get a knife and fork not your phone to take a
picture.
- Those
who comment on how bad their day was but are ambiguous enough to make others
reply in concern… this one is mostly a popularity contest.
- I
once heard of a couple who proudly published a picture of their daughter’s
passport. Um, to them I would say bird brains, much?
Then, there
are those who are my personal FB nightmare. The people who for some reason post
every single thing they do throughout the day. EVERY. SINGLE. THING. Seriously,
it’s like there’s no more mystery between us anymore. From the moment they wake
up, to the moment they are posting that insomnia will just not let go at 2 AM (perhaps
you should put that phone down and start counting sheep), it is a constant one-
by- one of their whole lives. It’s as if they would love a reality show about
them, but facebook is the only outlet available.
Or, maybe
they suffer from the same kind of memory loss like Drew Barrymore did on 50
First Dates, and they need to put it up on their status so they will know what
they did the day before. Unless that’s the case, I might just “unfriend” them,
because I didn’t sign up for that. (FYI, it is being shown to me right now that
“unfriend” is not a word… yet another casualty provided by facebook). Some people
just have to prioritize on what is important and what just isn’t because nobody
cares enough to know how much traffic there was on your way to work. Perhaps all
that traffic is caused by people posting how much traffic there is.

JULY 1ST, 2012 (PT. I)
July 1st
is a date to mark on our calendars, for responsible citizens will be marching
out the door to head to the polls and vote for our next President of Mexico,
and other representatives such as senators, members of the congress, city
mayors and governors.
Probably,
from this day forward I will address this matter more than once, but no worries,
for I will not do it to lobby for/ trash a particular candidate or anything of
the sort. I believe that is up to each and every one of us to be able to decide
and I am no one to tell people what to believe in, politically or otherwise.
Never mind
who is running this year, I want to talk about us, the people, who have an
interest in improving our country, to make changes for the better. Or, are we? I
can’t decide, really. I know I want to live in a safer country, not worry for
how this economy is affecting me on a personal level, and to know I have equal
opportunities as anyone to make a better living for myself, to name a few
things. I know everyone else wants these things too, not just for themselves,
but also to provide a better country for the children who will take over the
reins of our country in the future. Yes, those are all fine ideals, but, how
exactly do we plan to achieve that?
Apparently,
the answer we all come up with is that our representatives are the only
responsible people for this. We even feel disappointed in them for not making
anything about our current situation. Whether said disappointment is justified
or not isn’t the question, it’s the fact that what little we can do we seem to be too lazy to even accomplish. For instance,
a few blocks away from where I work there are several government buildings,
around which parking is prohibited, by law. Signs are very clear on that point.
Nevertheless, on my way to work as I pass through these buildings parked cars
are abundant. And yes, those vehicles are from people who perform in political
activities and such. One would suppose they are familiar with abiding to the
law, right? But just because they are the ones doing this doesn’t exempt the
rest of us for not being able to obey another simple law (one of the easiest
ones) and read a STOP sign in the street, comprehend what that means and execute
what is proper driving protocol instead of the usual “I bet if I floor it I can
beat that car that’s 30 ft away and closer”. I know, this is a little
reminiscing of a previous post, but this is to prove a point that this is the
way this country operates, from the highest level of politics to the lowest
echelon in the economy pyramid. “If I can beat that other guy, by all means necessary,
regardless of what is ethical and get ahead, you bet I will do it”. That is
done everywhere, not just in the congress, or in politician’s offices, but out
in the streets, by us, by the ones no one elected to be anything
representational of our nation. And because we weren’t chosen for diplomatic
affairs we seem to think we are excused of following such “little” and “insignificant”
directives. I’m not saying that everyone falls
into these temptations of disregarding regulations, but it’s safe to say that
more people than I care to count do.

... AND WORLD PEACE
I was 5
years old when I declared to my family I decided to become a tall, proud and
glamorous Miss Universe.
I was 6
years old when I found out that the winner could hold the coveted crown
for only one year and I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle.
Even then I
knew the contestants are absolutely gorgeous, stunning creatures capable of strutting
on really high heels, show off amazing gowns, pose and smile and look divine
all at the same time.
The Miss
Universe Organization is a pageant based on how pretty these girls are, really.
It sounds somewhat shallow, I know, but it’s still entertaining to watch. Most of
us got over the fact that we will never become one of those glamazons on the
TV. I was 6 when I got over it, but it didn’t had anything to do with my looks.
Anyway,
this year’s competition has been faced with the controversy that the Canadian contestant
Jenna Talackova has generated. The 23- year old is a born male who had a sex
change operation four years ago. She will be participating in the Miss Universe
2012 pageant, which makes her the first transgender in history to be part of
the annual contest.
At first,
when Talackova was denied the opportunity to attempt winning the crown because
she wasn’t a “woman” the GLAAD group came to the rescue and began talks with
the MUO. The advocacy unit made a breakthrough and managed to get Talackova
back in the competition, as well as changing the rules to allow other
transgender women to participate in the future. It might be “just” a beauty
pageant, but to me, that’s history in the making right there. I applaud the efforts
to build equal opportunities for everyone, no matter their background.
So, that
matter has been resolved and I can’t help but feel happy for Miss Talackova,
and I can only imagine how ecstatic she must feel. But still, I also can’t help
thinking that it shouldn’t end here. This is not a message about her story and
how she succeeded even if she doesn’t win, but it’s more of a question I want
to ask everyone: If a beauty pageant (emphasis on what’s on the outside is what
matters), then why church entities, certain business corporations, and society
as a whole can’t or won’t recognize LGBT people, exclusively on their sexual
orientation? They are more than just their preferences. They have virtues and
flaws, just like everyone else. We must focus on them as who they are, and who
they want to become and how they make our society work for the better, instead
of telling them they can’t do this or they can’t do that because of who they
feel attracted to.
We must be
bigger than our own opinions and acknowledge that we are all equal and unique,
and we can all do whatever we set our minds to, because after all, it is our
minds that will take us to do anything, not only what we look like on the
outside.
Let’s take our
cue from Miss Universe Organization, and with this small step (perhaps with strappy
stilettos) we might just achieve their goal, which should also be ours:

TRAFFIC BULLIES
This post
is not meant to give out advice or impart wisdom in any size, shape or form. This
right here is me enforcing my right to rant. And rant I will. I clearly need an
outlet. And a kitten I can pet.
The word “bully” is very popular right now, due to newsworthy issues in middle schools, and also the movie that is coming out this month. These are not the kind of bullies I’m addressing (duh, kinda gave it away in the title there), but they are very real and just as harmful.
The word “bully” is very popular right now, due to newsworthy issues in middle schools, and also the movie that is coming out this month. These are not the kind of bullies I’m addressing (duh, kinda gave it away in the title there), but they are very real and just as harmful.
Road rage
is one of the worst things out there in the streets, and I’ll be the first to
admit that I too, have experienced this intense form of anger caused by unskilled
drivers, slow pedestrians, vehicles parked in lanes and stop lights with 10
second green lights, while behind the wheel in more than one occasion. Nevertheless,
I have overcome this ill- tempered reaction, and opted to drive in a more
responsible manner, in which I refuse to be fazed by these factors for everyone’s
sake. This decision, though healthy and safer, thru practice has led me to find
myself identifying drivers who are afflicted with road rage.
What this
means is that while I am dutifully acknowledging and respecting stop signs,
speed limits, yield signs (oh, dear, yield signs!) and every indication I have
to follow in order to be a sensible driver, there will always be the one idiot
person pushing me to step on it, thus going over the speed limit, or the
other one who will be honking at me just because I wouldn’t run the yellow
light, or my worst nightmare, which I live through on a daily basis, the
inconsiderate who doesn’t really know what a “YIELD” sign is for. To this
people, YIELD means that I have to slow
down and let them pass, when the sign is painstakingly clearly posted for their
lane. How ignorant can they be? Really!! Some of them actually floor it so they
can beat me at the intersection. To those, I flip the bird, alright. Well,
metaphorically, thru here.
What makes
matters worse is that this kind of people seem to believe that because I drive
a chevy and they are hauling a big ass truck of a vehicle, I have to do what
they want me to, or else. Or else meaning getting to the point of almost
getting hit, which would basically result in a hit- and- run on their part.
But what
really bugs me about this is the fact that even though I don’t want to feel
road rage anymore, other drivers and their limited knowledge of traffic rules result
so irritating that I end up having it, as well. It is so much rage that I wish I could just
fling a cross bar at their precious Hummer, or strike their Ford F-150
repeatedly with a bat, or just slam their heads against the wheel while I hand
them a pamphlet that has been previously highlighted showing where they messed
up. Yes, I can turn up pretty violent at times, but only when it is called for.
Hehe, according to me, okay? And even though I painted a good picture of what I
wish I could do, I must admit it will never happen. Mostly because I’m afraid
what they might do to me, but also because I know violence is not the answer. Even
though I also fantasize (a lot) about cutting these people’s hands off so they
can never drive again.
"I'll show you to run a stop sign, you #@%&/!"
So, to
those traffic bullies out there, let this be a warning… Oh, no, wait, sorry,
just be careful out there, because you might just find your match and cause a
horrible accident trying to see who is faster and more furious. Or also you
might cause it to some innocent girl who just wants to take her dog out for a
peaceful walk… who will also cut your hands off and let said dog feast on them.
